My good friend, Paul Aubin, has started a
new blog - in which he promises to relate the process and experiences of writing a book. Having collaborated with him on a book a couple of years ago myself, I can tell you that it's nothing like what you might think. It's complex, time consuming, and ... fun...
Hmm, I must have done something wrong when working with Ellen Finkelstein on her AutoCAD Bibles... because 'fun' sure didn't enter my vocabulary. ;)
ReplyDeleteWriting a book is sort of like giving birth... only more painful and not quite as rewarding. ;) (of course, I'm sure that won't stop me from doing it again)
Oh, I don't know. It was a lot of work, and I don't plan on doing it again - at least not while I have a day job and a family, but it WAS fun - at least to me. And I got a real sense of accomplishment at the end.
ReplyDeleteI haven't written a book but I always thought it would be like doing a project: a defined scope with a budget and a schedule. Oh, and along with that, owner changes, technical problems, not enough time, and not enough staff.
ReplyDeleteAm I even close?
Something like that - along with scope creep and missed deadlines :-).
ReplyDeleteAlthough the book I worked on with Paul went fairly smoothly, from a writing standpoint, anyway.
